In a bid to turn Labuan Bajo into a safer and more comfortable tourism destination with international standard as directed by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing continues to build a number of tourism supporting facilities and infrastructure in super-priority destinations (DPSP) in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara province.

The arrangement of the Marina Beach Waterfront area in Bukit Pramuka is divided into five zones, including Bukit Pramuka (Zone 1), Kampung Air (Zone 2), the dock (Zone 3), Marina Beach area (Inaya Bay, Zone 4), and Kampung Ujung (Zone 5).

Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono said that the area arrangement is targeted to be completed by mid-November this year.

“I urge the arrangement of the Marina Beach Waterfront area in Bukit Pramuka to be completed by 15 November. I expect a good result on this work project,” Basuki said during a working visit to Labuan Bajo, Thursday (14/10).

As of today, the progress of the project at Zone 1-2 has reached 95.1 percent, while Zone 3-5 reached 56.18 percent.

In regards to the area arrangement, the Minister underscored the importance of creating more green spaces in this area.

“I ask to add more plants here. They shouldn’t be arranged symmetrically, just plant them in places that can be planted. We can plant coconuts here, so if someone is thirsty, they can pick the fruit,” he said.

Besides the Marina area, the Government has also arranged the Puncak Waringin area and the Batu Cermin area. The President has inaugurated the arrangements of both areas and eight road segments in Labuan Bajo on Thursday (14/10).

Alhamdulillah, the construction of various infrastructures to support tourism in Labuan Bajo has been completed and Labuan Bajo is ready to welcome the arrival of tourists,” the President said at the inauguration.

The Head of State pointed out that after the inauguration, the important things that must be done immediately are to promote the tourism areas massively and prepare Labuan Bajo for national and international events.

“It will support the G20 Summit and it will also be used for ASEAN Summit in 2023” he remarked.

For the record, the arrangement of Puncak Waringin National Tourism Strategic Area (KSPN) began in August 2019 and finished in March 2021 with an arranged area of 0.39 hectares. Meanwhile, Batu Cermin KSPN with an area of 2.9 hectares was arranged from March 2020 to March 2021. (PR of Ministry of PUPR/HIM/UN) (RIF/LW)
