President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has emphasized the importance of building professionalism and basic values of the leaders of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN).

At the meeting with directors of SOEs at the Meruorah Komodo Hotel Ballroom, West Manggarai regency, East Nusa Tenggara province on Thursday (14/10), the President said that the directors of SOEs are selected people who need to be confident in facing competition both nationally and globally.

The President also asked the directors of SOEs to build a simple work culture and to adopt simple workflows.

Moreover, he continued, lengthy and complicated procedures must also be streamlined, because such issues may hinder new investment coming to the country.

Furthermore, President Jokowi urged them to be braver in competing and taking risks. He also instructed Minister of SOEs to no longer provide protection to companies with financial problems.

On that occasion, the President underscored that SOEs in the country had begun to merge, consolidate and reorganize. Currently, there are 41 state-owned companies from the previous 108 companies. (BPMI/HIM/UN) (EST/MMB)
