President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Thursday (04/11) visited Indonesian and United Arab Emirates (UAE) Pavillions at Expo 2020 in Dubai.
President Jokowi arrived at the Expo, which is participated by 191 countries, at 18.40 local time or 21.40 Western Indonesian Time.
Upon arrival at the Indonesian Pavillion, the President was greeted by Minister of Trade Muhammad Lutfi.
The Indonesian Pavillion was divided into three time zones, namely “Indonesia Yesterday” on the 1st floor, “Indonesia Today” on the 2nd floor, and “Indonesia Tomorrow” on the 3rd floor. After visiting all three zones, the President then visited the “Night Market” area.
In his written statement, Minister of Trade said that the Indonesian Pavillion, which features three time zones of “Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow”, will open the world’s eyes to see the strength of Indonesia’s past, present, and future as a global power.
“Allow us to welcome everyone from across the world to Indonesia’s Pavilion. We hope that the world will witness and acknowledge our archipelago as an opportunity to trade, invest, and visit,” the Minister said.
Indonesia has decided to highlight trade, investment, and tourism during the Expo. The Minister explained that it is important to ensure that the Indonesian Pavilion could represent the potential and excellence of the country in the eyes of the world as the pavilion will be the main means for Indonesia to market the nation’s image to potential strategic partners from all over the world.
From the Indonesian Pavilion, President Jokowi then headed to the UAE Pavilion and was greeted by Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The President and the Crown Prince then saw a screening of a movie showing the development of civilization in the UAE. The President also filled out and signed the guest book and wrote the message “Great vision, great action,” in the book.
The two leaders then headed to the main theater and watched a performance of Indonesian cultural folklore titled “Land of Diversity”. The show features a number of regional dances depicting the diversity of Indonesia.
In his remarks, President Jokowi conveyed that Indonesia is a country blessed with rich and diverse cultures and is known for its natural beauty.
“We have many tourism destinations including Bali, Lake Toba, Mandalika, Labuan Bajo, Borobudur Temple, Likupang, and the many more that we continue to develop. Therefore, Indonesia is known as a tourism paradise,” he said.
In addition, the President said, the country also has abundant natural resources. He ensured that the utilization of this potential is carried out in measurable and controlled manners and its sustainability is guaranteed for the good of the nation and the next generation.
The President also stated that currently, there are more opportunities to work together and make a real contribution to the global progress. To that end, the President urged to continue to accelerate, strengthen cooperation, solidarity, and friendship, for a better life for all nations.
“Indonesia is the Land of Majesty, a land rich in nature and culture. Indonesia is the Land of Opportunity which will continue to open up new opportunities. Indonesia is the Land of Innovation which will continue to innovate for generations to come. This is us, ‘Indonesia, the Land of Diversity’,” he said.
After the occasion, the President and his entourage directly headed to Al Maktoum International Airport and then took off to Jakarta using the national flag carrier Garuda Indonesia Airlines (GIA-1). (Presidential Secretariat/UN) (FI/LW)
